Bad Beats Rule Change

Players: for your review.

The blind schedule in the Bad Beats Poker League has been a hotly debated topic from the time we started the league last year. We have tried to make a fair schedule that both allowed for some relaxed gaming, and yet pushed the action along at a good pace.

There have been some additional discussions about the blind schedule in recent days, and we would like to propose the following changes for the entire league membership to vote on:

Current Schedule:

25/50: 0-25 min
50/100: 25-50 min
100/200: 50-75 min -- 1 hour
250/500: 75-100 min
500/1000: 00-125 min -- 2 hours
1000/2000: 125-150 min
2000/4000: 150-175 min -- 3 hours
3000/6000: 175-200 min
4000/8000: 200-225 min
5000/10000: 225-250 min -- 4 hours

Proposed Schedule:

50/100: 0-30 MIN
100/200: 30-60 MIN -- 1 hour
200/400: 60-90 MIN
300/600: 90-120 MIN -- 2 hours
400/800: 120-150 MIN
500/1000: 150-180 MIN -- 3 hours
1000/2000: 180-210 MIN
2000/4000: 210-240 MIN -- 4 hours
3000/6000: 240-270 MIN
4000/8000: 270-300 MIN -- 5 hours
5000/1000: 300-330 MIN

The feeling is that this would accomplish three main goals:

1. NO MORE $25 CHIPS!
2. There is now 2.5 hours of play before we get to the 500/1000 blinds. That is almost an hour more than in the old schedule.
3. The blinds are more meaningful for those first 2.5 hours now, so the level of play will necessarily have to be a bit better.

Also, there are two thoughts about the seeming increased length of our tournaments:

1 The won't last any longer anyway. It's rare that a tourney goes for much more than 4 hours, regardless of the blinds.
2. If we get started right at 7:00, even a 5 hour tourney will be over by midnight, which is a widely acceptable result.
